GROW BRASS ROOTS

Brass Roots is a community organization dedicated to uniting Jacobs School of Music and Bloomington-area musicians to collectively advocate for human rights, immigrant justice, global solidarity, and holding institutions accountable at the university, city, state, and national levels.

This group welcomes all people: IU students, alumni, freelancers, and educators; musicians of all genres: classical, jazz, hip-hop, rock, indie, folk, and salsa, ect; and musicians regardless status.

We are musicians, inherently creative, passionate, and forward-thinking. Yet, too often we remain divided by genre and generation instead of mobilizing together for problems bigger than music.

We need your help creating a band that joins the community in their efforts to be heard—both figuratively and literally. As musicians, we have the power to manifest change through our music. It’s time to use it. We are preparing for protests, pop-ups, community readings, performances, and discussions.
